Our groups

Stronghold is made up of regional groups based around England who all come together to deliver medieval experiences multiple times each year at re-enactment shows as well as public and private events. The society is run by and comprised entirely of volunteer historical interpreters from all walks of life from across the country. We are a non-profit organisation with the core goal of delivering educational and entertaining medieval experiences year-round.

Our membership includes students, engineers, human resource workers, archivists, teachers, researchers, technicians, police officers, call centre employees, nurses, writers, financial service workers, and more. We do not discriminate on any grounds — every member, no matter their ethnicity, religion, or nationality, has every right to take part in our displays.

All our portrayals are based in history and each element, from the clothes we wear, to the equipment we use, to the tents we sleep in, has been thoroughly researched and is grounded in extant and pictorial historical sources.

Take a look at our regional groups below!

Routiers

Nationwide

Routiers are a small but dedicated group of veteran re-enactors based throughout England. They portray everything from a knightly household at war to a thriving medieval pub. When not involved in combat, they field a living history camp and excellent kitchen with its very own bread oven.
